The Death Stranding: Director's Cut PC release has been confirmed -- the upgrade for Kojima Productions' ambitious action-adventure game is coming to PC via Steam in 2022.
Death Stranding is the first major release from Hideo Kojima's company Kojima Productions. Initially launched on PlayStation, the game later made its way to PC following a short delay. Since then, the PC version has received exclusive crossover content with Cyberpunk 2077.
The game tells the tale of Sam "Porter" Bridges, a courier in a post-apocalyptic America who is trying to help reunite the land that is suffering from a plague of otherworldly creatures known as "B.T.s" that can be highly dangerous. Sam makes use of high-tech equipment and weaponry to traverse difficult terrain while also fighting off B.T.s, bandits, and other hazards.
Kojima later surprised gamers with the announcement of a bunch of new content coming in a "Director's Cut" for PlayStation 5 last summer. Unfortunately, a PC release was nary in sight -- until now. As reported on Reddit, a Steam Store page for the game has gone live.
When is the Death Stranding: Director's Cut PC Release Date?
The Death Stranding: Director's Cut PC release date will be sometime in 2022. A more specific release date has not yet been announced, but a press release from 505 Games notes that it's targeting a Spring 2022 release window. That means we'll likely get it sometime between now and June 20, 2022.
A news post from 505 Games also highlights the fact that the PC version will make use of Intel’s new Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) graphics technology. This will give players an "enhanced experience" with "high graphical detail," although there weren't any specifics shared at the time of this announcement.
Here's what you'll get with the Death Stranding: Director's Cut PC release:
- High Frame Rate
- Photo Mode
- Ultra-Wide Monitor Support
- New game content including races, a cargo cannon, and more
- "Selections From 'The Art of DEATH STRANDING'" Digital Book (by Titan Books)
- Backpack Patches
- Bridges Special Delivery Team Suit (Gold)
- BB pod customization (Chiral Gold)
- Power Gloves (Gold)
- Bridges Special Delivery Team Suit (Silver)
- BB pod customization (Omnireflector)
- Power Gloves (Silver)
Unfortunately, details on pricing have not yet been revealed. Critically, there is no mention of what it would cost current owners to upgrade to the Director's Cut version of the game. That said, the upgrade from PS4 to PS5 cost players $10, so I imagine the pricing will be the same for the Death Stranding: Director's Cut PC release.
For now, you can add Death Stranding: Director's Cut to your wishlist on Steam; an Epic Games Store page will be going live at a later time.
