Death Stranding may be on the way to Xbox Game Pass, as they have seemingly teased the idea by using what looks to be a Death Stranding landscape as their Twitter profile picture.

Update: It was confirmed this morning by an Xbox Blogpost that indeed Death Stranding IS coming to PC Game Pass. This game will be delivered to Xbox Game Pass for PC on August 23rd and will feature the full spectrum of PC enhancements including Ultrawide mode, high framerate, photo mode, and collaboration content. Through the progress of the story players will be able to unlock the following content:

  • Chiral Gold / Omnireflector “Ludens Mask” Sunglasses (Color Variant)
  • Gold and Silver Power Skeleton
  • Gold and Silver All-Terrain Skeleton
  • Gold and Silver Armor Plate

There was no mention of any chance that this title would be coming to Xbox Consoles, but that also makes complete sense as the console edition is published by Sony.

Original Story: It looks as though a Death Stranding Xbox Game Pass announcement may be on the way shortly, as Xbox changed their profile picture on Twitter to what looks to be a screenshot of the landscape in-game. Though there are no concrete details as of yet, we must ask ourselves: when you look death in the eye, will you blink?

Death Stranding is an action-packed open world game created in 2019, where players embark on an emotional and harrowing journey through an open world filled with otherworldly creatures. You will take on the life of the game's main character, Sam Bridges, who has been tasked with bringing much-needed cargo to barren off-grid cities known as KNOTs. You must also help connect each civilization to a vast communication network known as the Chiral Network to keep updates flowing from each location.

The game features an interesting leveling system, as you are granted merits based upon the cargo deliveries you make. Was the cargo intact? Was it delivered in a timely manner? Through these evaluations, "likes" will be generated, which in turn grants you merits that you use to level up your character's stats. Along the way, you will encounter enemies such as the MULEs, Beached Things, and Demens, some of whom will try to steal your cargo in order to deliver it themselves. Each of the game's enemies come with their own quirks that make them difficult to conquer. The MULEs are crafty and stealthy bandits that are inherently obsessed with cargo, for example, while the Demens are MULEs that will stop at nothing to steal your cargo and even kill you in the process just for the fun of it.

What evidence do we have for an Xbox Game Pass Death Stranding announcement?

The game originally came to PC in 2020, but as of yesterday, it seems as though Xbox may be bringing the acclaimed game to Game Pass. Through a teasingly cryptic tweet, PC Game Pass stated,

"sometimes we just like a good landscape picture #NewProfilePic"

Along with this tweet came a change to their profile picture, which some say looks like an image of the landscape from Death Stranding. While none of this has been confirmed by the company thus far, many are speculating that the game will be coming to Game Pass sooner or later. So, why is this so significant? This game was initially a Sony-exclusive game created by Kojima Productions which was actually funded by Sony Interactive Entertainment. This means that now, the game may be about to enter the world of Xbox users, giving those who weren't able to give Death Stranding a shot the chance to play the game through the use of their Game Pass subscriptions.

Even more thrilling, there has been confirmation in the past that Death Stranding 2 is in the works, making a potential Game Pass reveal a great way to play through the first portion of the story prior to the upcoming release of the second chapter. Given that the game's creator Hideo Kojima has won the Japanese Cultural Award for Death Stranding, it goes without saying that Xbox users should be thrilled at the idea that this title could be headed to the platform.
