CD Projekt Red made just over $300 million in Fiscal Year 2020 according to an early estimation of an upcoming financial report, showing that Cyberpunk 2077 likely sold very well despite its problems.
There's no question that Cyberpunk 2077 had a shaky launch, especially on the older generation of consoles. That said, there was still a massive mountain of hype behind the game and it wouldn't be weird to guess that it probably sold very well indeed. One thing is apparent from a new report from the company: it certainly didn't lose any money last year.
CD Projekt Red's Profits Indicate Cyberpunk 2077 Still Sold Well
CD Projekt Red's estimated earnings report is, simply put, a quick summation of how much the company made as a whole. This report only mentions a couple of data points and a ton of legal disclaimers, so don't expect too much in the way of detail.
The company brought in a total of $561.6 million (2.14 zł billion) throughout Fiscal Year 2021. That ultimately resulted in a staggering $303 million (1.15 zł billion) in profit for the developer of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
This falls in line with expected trends based on previous financial reports from the Polish developer. It had nearly doubled its revenue in 2020 — no big surprise for a developer releasing a hotly-anticipated, AAA game on multiple platforms. Sales of the game were still quite strong despite several delays and a promise to fully refund anyone dissatisfied with it at the state of launch.
That's all we know for now, sadly. CD Projekt Red is going to release its full financial statement next week after a short delay. That's when we'll likely get a better picture of just how well Cyberpunk 2077 sold in its first year.
