CD Projekt Red sales have remained strong for the previous quarter despite the Cyberpunk 2077 delay, owing in part to the continued success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Cyberpunk 2077 is all set to launch — fingers crossed, knock wood, etc — on December 10, 2020. The game has suffered several delays throughout 2020 and was originally intended to launch much earlier in the year, and then earlier in November. The delay of the game's launch would naturally have an impact on the company's revenue, but it hasn't been as bad as one might think.
How Much Has CD Projekt Red Sales Improved?
As the above chart shows, CD Projekt Red sales have gone up by 46,979,000 zł ($12,514,680) despite the Cyberpunk 2077 delay pushing back the game's launch to December 10, 2020. The reason? Their other games are still selling well as noted by one industry commentator on Twitter — some of them many years after they first launched according to the latest financial report.
The largest contribution to the CD PROJEKT Group’s revenues in the third quarter of 2020 was from Revenues from sales of
products (31% q/q increase), mostly from:a) licensing royalties associated with ongoing strong sales of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt together with its expansions – Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, sold separately as well as in the Game of the Year Edition bundle;
b) royalties related to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Nintendo Switch;
c) royalties related to digital sales in the framework of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and Thronebreaker: The Witcher
Tales.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, in particular, was also a strong contributor to CD Projekt Red sales with a 606% increase quarter-over-quarter, largely due to the game being released on Steam, Android, and iOS.
The craziest thing of all, however, is that these numbers don't factor in the day one sales for Cyberpunk 2077. When that game releases, it will likely signal a banner year for CD Projekt Red.
