Today Destiny 2 developer Bungie teased an interesting new project being worked on by one of its development teams.
According to a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the developer is incubating a new team-based action game.
It's also a new IP and it seems to drive inspiration from a wide variety of genres. It's described as follows.
One of our favorite incubation projects is a team-based action game inspired by several genres in a brand-new, science-fantasy universe. It draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games, wrapped up in a lighthearted, comedic world.
The team's designing for depth, mastery, and Bungie's signature action feel, as well as a friendly, inclusive community. We are actively hiring for this project and other small project teams. So, if you want to build a new type of Bungie game, join us!
It's worth mentioning that the term "Incubation" indicates that the project is likely quite early in development and it may or may not ever see the light of day.
In the meanwhile, Bungie is preparing to unveil Destiny 2's upcoming update The Final Shape next week, while it has recently revealed its new game Marathon, which is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S with cross-play and cross-save.
The developer has recently become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment, following the acquisition announced in 2022. That being said, as Marathon indicates, this doesn't mean that any new game they create will necessarily be a PlayStation exclusive.
