If you were expecting to take on legions of monsters and demons all the way to the endgame with a faithful companion by your side in Diablo IV, you'll probably want to temper your expectations.
During a group interview with Diablo IV developer, Lead Game Producer, Story and Narrative Melissa Corning revealed the status of cosmetic, in-game pets and companions in Diablo IV.
"We have no plans for pets right now. But, you know, we've definitely heard the feedback that people really liked them in Diablo III. So who knows?"
Cosmetic pets are usually miniature, cute versions of common enemies and bosses and were frequent rewards for seasonal activities in Diablo III. Right now, it's certain we won't see them at launch in Diablo IV, but Corning's acknowledgment of this feature may instill hope in some fans. With a season pass and cosmetic shop included in the game, there are plenty of opportunities for these fan-favorite cosmetics to make a return.
