Bethesda Apologizes For Messing Up Fallout 76 Fasnacht Parade Event

Some Protectrons in Fallout 76's Fasnacht Parade event

As Christopher Bullock once said, "tis impossible to be sure of anything but death, taxes, and things going wrong with Fallout 76". Okay, he didn't say the last part, but Fallout 76's reputation for being a total mess is just as much a certainty as death and taxes. This time, it's the Fasnacht Parade seasonal event that's gone wrong.

Yesterday, Reddit user softso posted an issue with the Fasnacht Parade on the official Fallout 76 subreddit. The user said that the butcher's house in-game no longer spawned critters which drop a crucial item for the event. Bethesda itself then responded to the issue confirming that it was happening. In Bethesda's words, critters "were not spawning correctly during certain objectives", which would cause the Fasnacht Parade event to fail. This issue was originally identified by private test server (PTS) play testers, but as Bethesda wasn't able to reproduce the issue, it went unresolved and they originally released the broken event.

What is Bethesda doing to fix Fallout 76 this time?

As a result of the issue, Fasnacht is currently disabled. A fix for the issue has already been implemented internally, and Bethesda is targeting 10 am ET today for the fix to go live. In order to compensate Fallout 76 players for lost time and the Fasnacht Parade event being, well, broken, Bethesda says it'll be extending the event until June 9th. In addition to this, there will be a bunch more free items on the Atomic Shop that you can claim for free. More info on what those items are will be available later in the week, so stay tuned for that. Whatever the bundle happens to be, you'll be able to claim it from June 2nd.

Quick Take

This is just the latest in a long line of bugs and exploits that Fallout 76 players have suffered with. It's hard to imagine how Bethesda can claw back its reputation after what appears to be issue after issue plaguing the spinoff survival game. Granted, the Fasnacht Parade bug isn't quite as game-breaking as others have been, but the optics of this aren't good, to say the least. We'll inevitably be bringing you more on Fallout 76 when the next big bug appears.
