Shin Megami Tensei 3 Block Puzzle

When you get to Asakusa you'll end up finding something that I'm sure you never expected in a JRPG. There is a Shin Megami Tensei III Block Puzzle minigame. In one of the rooms in Asakusa, you'll enter and see a boy in front of an arcade machine. He tells you that if you can complete the game then you'll get a reward but that it's pretty difficult to beat.

The game is quite simple, you need to guide your Pumpkin Jack from the beginning of the level to the end. You can accomplish this by pushing blocks or rotating turnstiles. If there's a hole in the ground that fits a block you're pushing it can fall in becoming more floor for Pumpkin Jack to walk on. There is a total of 20 levels that you'll need to complete, the first 8-9 are relatively simple, but things really begin to heat up when you get to later levels in Shin Megami Tensei III.

How to complete the Shin Megami Tensei III Block Puzzle Minigame?

While text instructions wouldn't do justice to assist in showing you how to complete these block puzzles, we've put together a video showcasing every step. Early on Pumpkin Jack will be moving with some speed as the solutions are clearer to see but as the levels progress in length he will move slower to make following our steps easier. If anything presented in the video is unclear, or you'd like further specifications then let us know below so we can make sure the video is accurate.

Once you've completed all 20 levels you'll be taken out of the game and back to the room with the boy. He will give you the Magatama Geis, this is a healing Magatama and has one of the best final skills in the game, Mana Refill.

What does the Geis Magatama do in Shin Megami Tensei III?

Element: Light
Resistances: Expel (Void)

Stat Increases

  • Str +2
  • Mag +2
  • Vit +4
  • Agi +4
  • Luck +4

Shin Megami Tensei III Block Puzzle

Learned Skills

  • Lv 37 - Diarama         Greatly restore one ally's HP
  • Lv 39 - Life Refill       With every step taken you regain health
  • Lv 41 - Tetraja            Created a shield with nullifies Expel or Death. Lasts whole battle until it is hit.
  • Lv 44 - Mediarama     Greatly restores party's HP
  • Lv 47 - Diarahan        Fully restores one ally's HP
  • Lv 51 - Mana Refill    With every step taken you regain MP

While Mediarama can heal everyone that Mana Refill will mean even in the walking space between 3-4 battles you'll have regained enough MP to heal everyone again. For the types of long dungeons that continually appear at the end of the game not having to worry about mana refill items or even healing items, in general, is incredible. Geis's "jack of all trades, master of none" stat-boosting and only a resistance to Expel doesn't do too much so it certainly won't be one that you keep around. But equipping it for a few levels to get that final skill is more than enough for the time wasted pushing blocks to be of benefit to you.
