Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Skills Guide - Memories of the Hunter Skill Tree

How Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Skills Work

Much like the Far Cry games it's modeled after, the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Skills are a mix of passive buffs, stat increases, and unlockable special abilities. If you have the Skill Points to spend, you can seriously power up your Na'vi.

Skills are divided into 5 categories:

  1. Survivor: Health, healing, and damage resistances.
  2. Warrior: Combat damage buffs and ammo.
  3. Hunter: Stealth, hunting, and assassination.
  4. Maker: Crafting and carrying capacity.
  5. Rider: Ikran special abilities and buffs. Requires unlocking the Ikran flying mount before it will be revealed.

As the image above shows, each of these five categories has a tree; you can unlock more powerful Skills by investing in previous tiers. Skills can cost 1 Skill Point at the lower end and 4 Skill Points at the higher end.

How to Get More Skill Points

There are three ways to get more Skill Points:

  1. Complete Quests
  2. Find Tarsyu Saplings on the Map
  3. Find Ancestor Skills on the Map

It's worth the investment to explore and find Tarsyu Saplings -- a few Skill Points spent in the right places can be a major advantage!

How Ancestor Skills Work

Unlike regular Skills, Ancestor Skills are super-powerful abilities that will give you unique bonuses. For example, the "Air Boost" Ancestor Skill gives you a double jump.

Each Ancestor Skill is tied to a fully-grown Tarsyu hidden somewhere in the world; all of these are visible on the map as large, glowing, pink pillars of energy.

It's always worth it to get Ancestor Skills if you're nearby. In addition to the Ancestor Skills themselves, you'll also get a few Skill Points once you've found the Tarsyu and interacted with it.

Apex Challenges are special quests that can unlock powerful abilities once completed.

Apex Skills, Explained - Or, Why You Should Max Out a Tree

There is one final category of Skills: Apex Skills. Apex Skills are incredibly powerful abilities that can turn the tide of a tough battle if you use them right, but you can only unlock them by getting every single Skill in a tree.

You can unlock one Apex Skill per Skill Tree. These Apex Skills are:

  1. Survivor: Second Wind - You can self-revive and get 10 seconds of damage reduction at the cost of 50% of your maximum energy.
  2. Warrior: Powerful Shots - Hitting a target with a bow or spear has a chance to stun that target.
  3. Hunter: Pandoran Harmony - Non-predator wildlife will ignore you as long as your Weapon is holstered.
  4. Maker: Master Crafter - Crafted Weapons and Armor are more powerful.
  5. Rider: Hunter's Boon - A successful flying taketown will restore 100% of your Ikran's Stamina and stagger any RDA units in an area around you.

It's important to decide if any of these Skills would be a good fit for your playstyle; if they are, you should do your best to work toward it as soon as you can. Mind, you won't just get the Apex Skill right away -- you'll have to complete a challenging Apex Quest before you'll earn the Apex Skill.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Skills Guide - Skill Benefits Highlighted on the HUD
Some Skills will provide immediate, tangible benefits such as a larger Healing Pouch and the ability to hold more ammo for your Weapons.

Best Skills to Take

The best Skills to take are Larger Healing Pouch and Vitality in the Survivor Skill Tree -- having more Health and more opportunities to Heal is invaluable in a game like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Health bonuses aside, I strongly recommend you take Scavenging Expert in the Maker Skill Tree. This gives you a chance to get Spare Parts from defeated AMPs, and you will be facing a lot of AMPs as you play through the game. Spare Parts can be used to buy better gear from the Resistance, but they are also used to Craft some of the most powerful ammo for your Weapons.

Finally, I'd advise grabbing any of the Skills that increase your capacity to hold ammo, Food, or Crafting Resources. Having a larger amount of supplies on hand will help you take on anything the RDA can throw at you -- and it minimizes downtime, too.
