We’ve seen bits and pieces of Ashen since its reveal at E3 2015, but after multiple delays, the release date has been uncertain. With the Video Game Awards ready to premiere, to the surprise of everyone the game has launched early and is downloadable now.
Ashen is a title exclusive to the Xbox One, at least for now. It won’t be available on Windows PC yet, but you can probably expect to see it on there sometime in the future. The game is $40 USD, but you can also play it if you own the Xbox Game Pass.
At the time of this writing, it is available in select online storefronts. The US store does not list it as out yet, however the UK Xbox Store has the game available to buy right now.
This co-op action RPG is often compared to Journey, where you’ll encounter random players as you explore through this strange, minimalist world. It includes Souls-like combat and tons of different strange creatures, and apparently potentially killer flora. You’ll fight through dungeons and encounter threats in a “sunless world,” so the setting is certainly intriguing. As the website explains, the world is quite diverse:
Ashen is filled with sweeping, hand-crafted environments waiting to be explored. From rugged coastlines to dark intricate caverns and sprawling cities from civilizations past, each region is unique and will reveal more about the lost history of the world.
There’s also a crafting component to the game, where you can build up your very own town. You can invite random survivors to your town to contribute to your cause. Lastly, fantasy author Mark Lawrence, known for his Grimdark novels like Prince of Thorns and a score composed by the band Foreign Fields.
Be sure to check the store soon if it isn’t available in your country, as Ashen is releasing tonight for the Xbox One.More About This Game
