Water trainers rejoice! Niantic Inc and The Pokemon Company International are holding a new in-game event for their hit augmented reality mobile game Pokemon GO. The Pokemon GO Water Festival is all about, you guessed it, water type Pokemon. So get your Pokeballs ready trainers, you have until March 29 to take advantage of the aquatic bounty.

During the Pokemon GO Water Festival there will be an increased amount of water type Pokemon to catch around the world. Prepare to find favorites like Squirtle, Totodile and their evolutions during the celebratory week. If the splashing Magikarp has managed to elude you thus far, than you’ll have a better chance of finding one of those too. In fact, players who have been participating in the Water Festival have come across an exciting addition to the game, shinies. Shiny Magikarp to be exact, which will evolve into a shiny Gyarados if you choose.

The spawn rate for the shiny Pokemon is low but as Magikarp is currently the only shiny available in the wild, your odds of getting one are better during the event than after it ends and the AR world gets significantly less Magikarpy. The special creatures have a distinct gold coloring and are even a bit shimmery while their more powerful evolved forms are red, so you’ll be sure to notice them.

The increased chance of running into water types includes those originally from the recently added Johto region. That means you have a better chance of finding cool aquatic creatures like Lapras. You’ll still need to go to areas where water type Pokemon are normally more likely to appear, you know where there’s water in real life, but it will be well worth a trek to the shore this week if you’d like to buff up your water type roster.

To mark the Pokemon GO Water Festival trainers will have access to a new avatar wardrobe item, the Magikarp Hat. The celebration got started on March 22nd and will continue until March 29th at 1 P.M. PST. So you still have plenty of time to catch yourself a shiny Magikarp and further your quest to catch’em all, well water types that is.
