Update 12/05/2016: Wizards of the Coast have confirmed that the four promotional Magic: The Gathering cards discussed below are indeed legitimate Aether Revolt cards. TechRaptor staff have therefore removed the [Rumor] label from this article's title.
The original story and previous updates follow below.
Update 12/01/2016: A new thread has been posted on the Magic: The Gathering subreddit has revealed the rest of the text on one of the leaked Aether Revolt cards, Quicksmith Rebel, as well as its power/toughness. Quicksmith Rebel is a 3/2 Human Artificer with a casting cost of three generic and one red mana. When Quicksmith Rebel enters the battlefield, target artifact you control gains "Tap: This artifact deals two damage to target creature or player" for as long as you control Quicksmith Rebel. The new screenshot also confirms that if these leaked cards are legitimate, Quicksmith Rebel will be the Launch promotional card; at the time of writing this article, Wizards of the Coast has not commented on the legitimacy of these cards.
TechRaptor will update this article when any more information about these leaked cards becomes available.
The original story follows below.
It appears that some cards from the next Magic: The Gathering set, Aether Revolt, have been previewed early. According to a thread on the Magic: The Gathering reddit subforum, the below image was posted to Facebook (the person or page that posted the image is not known at the time of writing this article). The cards featured below appear to be from Game Day and other promotional events from Wizards of the Coast.
From left-to-right, the four cards and what event they may possibly be available at are as follows:
- Quicksmith Rebel: Most of the text on this card is obscured, but it appears to be a Human Artificer with a casting cost of three generic and one red mana, and gives target creature some kind of tap effect when it enters the battlefield. Because it has a date stamp on it, it could either be the Launch Day promotional card, or one of the Aether Revolt pre-release promotional cards.
- Scrap Trawler: A Construct Artifact Creature with a casting cost of three generic mana and a power/toughness of 3/2. Whenever it or another artifact you control are put into a graveyard as a result of battle, you can return an artifact with lesser converted mana cost from the graveyard to your hand. This is likely the Buy-A-Box promotional card.
- Trophy Mage: A Human Wizard with a casting cost of two generic and one blue mana, and a power/toughness of 2/2. When it enters the battlefield, you may search your library for an artifact card with converted mana cost of three, reveal it, and put it into your hand and then shuffle your library. Because this card is a full-art uncommon, it is likely the participation promotional card for Aether Revolt Game Day.
- Yahenni's Expertise: A sorcery with a casting cost of two generic and two black mana that gives all creatures -3/-3 until the end of turn. You may also cast a card with converted mana cost of three or less from your hand without paying its mana cost. Because this card is a full-art rare, it is likely the Top 8 promotional card for Aether Revolt Game Day.
Aether Revolt is scheduled to release on January 20, 2017, with various pre-releases and card previews from Wizards of the Coast in the weeks leading up to it. Stay tuned to TechRaptor for more information on Aether Revolt and all things Magic: The Gathering.
