If you have any interest whatsoever in board games, you have heard of Monopoly. It was first published in 1903 and was originally intended as a critique of unchecked corporate capitalism, and is now one of the most prolific franchises ever. It has sold over 1 billion copies across 114 countries around the world. Name a popular franchise like Animal Crossing or Roblox, there's a version of Monopoly based on it. There was even a live-action 4D experience hosted in the UK. Now, publisher Hasbro is asking fans what classic game pieces they would like to see return with the Monopoly Throwback Token Vote.

According to an official press release, the Monopoly Throwback Token Vote is a worldwide vote to bring back a classic game piece to the next generation of Monopoly. Since the board game has been around for over a century, the various iconic game pieces coming out around 1935, Hasbro does specifiy that the game pieces up for vote are from the 1990s printing of the game. The six game pieces players can vote on are the Thimble, Wheelbarrow, Iron, Boot, Horse & Rider, and the Money Bag.

“We know that fans across the globe have been missing the tokens of their childhood, and now is the chance to take a trip down memory lane and bring one back!” said Adam Biehl, SVP & General Manager, Hasbro Gaming. “We’re so thrilled to give fans the opportunity once again to change the global best-selling board game through the MONOPOLY Throwback Token vote... but which iconic token will emerge victorious and which current token will go into retirement?”

The Monopoly Throwback Token Vote isn't the first time Hasbro have made changes to this classic board game either. Back in 2013, the Iron was retired from the game due to low fan votes, with the Hazel game piece replacing it. As for the Thimble, Wheelbarrow, and Boot, they were retired from the game in 2017 and replaced by the Penguin, T-Rex, and Rubber Ducky pieces.
