A new batch of official Discworld board games are on the way. UK-based developer Modiphius Entertainment has successfully secured the rights to produce new tabletop experiences set in the world created by acclaimed author Sir Terry Pratchett.

According to an official press release, Modiphius successfully negotiated a contract with the late Sir Pratchett's estate to publish tabletop games set in the imaginative and darkly entertaining Discworld setting.

For some players, it's been 25 years since they've been here.

The first of these tabletop projects will be a Discworld roleplaying game. The game will center around the city of Ankh-Morpork in celebration of the 40th-anniversary release of The Colour of Magic. This roleplaying game will be coming to Kickstarter in late 2024.

This is notable since the last time a Discworld TTRPG was released was back in 1998. It was published by Steve Jackson Games and used the notoriously dense and mathematically complex GURPS system.

In addition, Modiphius is reaching out to the wider Discworld fanbase. The studio is asking for input into what games they will develop with a survey. Given the long history of this acclaimed novel series, there is plenty of fertile ground for adaptation.

Speaking about the deal, Rob Wilkins said on behalf of the Pratchett Estate, “Terry had a lifelong affection with roleplaying games and it’s an entirely logical path along which you can follow his career from Dungeon Master to him becoming one of our most celebrated and beloved fantasy authors of all time. We are delighted to be partnering with Modiphius. We love their work and we love their ethos and we entirely trust them to get things right.”

When it comes to developing Discworld board games, Modiphius has a respectable history of managing beloved IP. The studio has adapted many beloved sci-fi and fantasy series, including Dune, Star Trek, The Elder Scrolls, and Fallout.

In addition, Modiphius has supported older works like Brikwars as well as developing their own original RPG setting: Dreams and Machines.
