Star Wars has seen many different board game adaptations. Star Wars Villainous had players take on the roles of bounty hunters, imperial officers, and evil space wizards. Star Wars X-Wing focused on dogfighting spaceships. Even a Star Wars deckbuilding game has been announced. Now, Asmodee Publishing and Atomic Mass Games have announced another tabletop experience called Star Wars: Shatterpoint, a tabletop game in the style of 80s and 90s Saturday morning cartoons.

Star Wars: Shatterpoint Announcement

According to an official press release, Star Wars: Shatterpoint is a competitive skirmish-based miniatures game. In this game, you will create your own squad of Star Wars heroes such as the Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano, the Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze, and the ruthless Lord Maul. Not only will there be thematically appropriate squads from the different eras of Star Wars, but it will also support custom team-ups. From there, you will compete with your opponent as you complete continuously evolving objectives. Finally, combat will be fast-paced and support a diverse range of abilities like special tools and Force powers.

Last but not least, Star Wars: Shatterpoint will sport a unique stylized appearance for their miniatures. According to Atomic Mass' director of product development, Will Shick, the art direction was heavily inspired by the fast-paced and energetic Saturday morning cartoons from the 80s and 90s. Shick says, "We wanted to take all the great things about Star Wars—the action, the adventure, and the iconic characters—to create a Star Wars miniatures game experience that felt like it had come straight out of the animated lineups of the ’80s and ’90s. To say it was a dream come true to work with such a talented group of artists, sculptors, and our awesome team at Lucasfilm to create new versions of the iconic Star Wars cast in this style would be a complete understatement." Given Atomic Mass' past work includes other Star Wars miniatures games as well Marvel Crisis Protocol, they have more than enough experience to deliver this unique take on the franchise.

Star Wars: Shatterpoint is set to release in June 2023.
