Karja from Ys X: Nordics

Today Nihon Falcom shared the Japanese release date, a new trailer, and new details about the upcoming action JRPG Ys X: Nordics

The game will release in Japan on September 28, 2023, for PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. This was semi-predictable as Nihon Falcon tends to target pretty much always the same period for its releases.

We also get to see a brief but intense trailer showcasing the first meeting between Adol and the new heroine Karja on top of gameplay, including combat, traversal, and naval action.

You can watch it below.

We also learn about more characters that will appear in the game starting with Mirabel Asrad. She's a nurse working at a clinic in Karnak founded by her father. She's friendly and cheerful but she's surprisingly tough. She interacts naturally even with Karja, who is known as the pirate princess.

Leif Evries is a childhood friend of Glenn and Cruz, but he left Karnak to work outside of the city. While he can be seen showing signs of his young age, he's often surprisingly mature. When he returns to his hometown he seems to avoid contact with his family and doesn't even approach his home.

Lira is a mysterious woman who communicates with Adol via a shell he found on the beach in Karnak. She's the one who gives him the power of Mana via the shell. She's located somewhere in Obelia Bay and she seems to need Adol's help.

The Nameless Old Man is a large older gentleman who lives alone in a small hut on a certain island. When Adol visits him, he's the one who teaches him how to use the power of Mana and how to fight. He seems to have lost all memories of his past including where he comes from, why he lives on the island, and his own name.

If you want to see more of the upcoming game you can take a look at the previous screenshotsa slightly older gallery with more details, and more gameplay.

At the moment, the game has been announced only for Japan. NIS America usually brings Nihon Falcom's games over to the West, but they have not revealed a localization just yet. Considering the usual pace, we can likely expect to have to wait a while before we get to play Ys X: Nordics in English. Luckily, the Ys series isn't as far behind as the Trails series, so it may not be too bad.
