XCOM 2's first expansion, War of the Chosen, was announced back at E3 during the PC Gaming Show and we've since learned a little more about it. While War of the Chosen will, of course, bring a bunch of new content, it will also have various bug fixes, optimizations, and other less interesting updates to the base game. However, in a tweet that is shown below, those fixes will not be coming to the base game.

The tweet notes that the code base for the game was rebuilt for War of the Chosen, which is why the fixes aren't available for just plain old XCOM 2. Speaking with IGN, Firaxis said these were the sort of fixes/updates coming with War of the Chosen:
We’ve definitely made improvements to loading times, certainly to stability, steady state frame rate has gone up. We have, right outside of my office, a bunch of machines running the game on a loop. It’s pretty fun, actually, because you can watch the AI play the game over and over, and there’s a performance monitor. They’ve done a lot of improvements, performance-wise.While Firaxis did not go into details on what may be patched to the base game, some of the above may give people an idea. And considering the response in the tweet above from Firaxis was to a question about a patch, maybe there is not one coming at all. This would be especially tragic given that XCOM 2 on PC was full of long loading times and bugs at launch, something that while improved some since is still a problem for the game.
We have reached out to Firaxis for comment and clarification.
XCOM 2: War of the Chosen releases in a couple of days on August 28th. That same day the developers will be having an AMA on Reddit at 10 a.m. PT if you want to ask them some questions.
