The next installment in the Wolfenstein series is coming this Summer, and be sure to bring a buddy along for the ride. Wolfenstein: Youngblood releases on July 26, 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Originally announced at E3 2018, BJ Blazkowicz is stepping aside as the protagonist, letting his daughters take the spotlight. Jess and Soph are BJ and Anya's daughters, and they are all grown up. It's a significant time jump since Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. Players can control either daughter in a 1980s Paris.

If you're alone, you will have an AI counterpart. However, for the first time since Wolfenstein's reboot, the game also features cooperative play. If you purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game, you can provide a Buddy Pass to a friend. The Buddy Pass allows you to play with a friend who doesn't own the game. According to the announcement, "The Buddy Pass can only be provided to one friend at a time, but it can be reused as many times as you want."

The Deluxe Edition features exclusive cosmetics. There is also a pre-order bonus that will grant additional cosmetics such as BJ'S US Army Power Suit.

A recent announcement on Bethesda.net revealed some more info on the plot and gameplay. The story is designed in collaboration with another Zenimax subsidiary, Arkane Studios. Players will create a home base in Paris' catacombs and fight Nazis. Apparently, there are "RPG elements" in Wolfenstein: Youngblood as well:

Explore Paris and take on the Nazis to level up and unlock new abilities, weapon attachments, gadgets, cosmetics and more. You’ll have access to updated and improved New Colossus weapons like the Dieselkraftwerk, Shockhammer (now called the Kugelgewehr), Laserkraftwerk and more, and you’ll also be able to tear through the fascist hordes with a number of new weapons like the iconic Maschinepistole and the devastatingly powerful Elektrokraftwerk.
Be sure to grab a friend and the Deluxe Edition if you want to play Wolfenstein: Youngblood cooperatively online. The game is launching on July 26, 2019, for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.

Quick Take

I'll remain optimistic about this one. Co-op Wolfenstein sounds amazing, and I'm intrigued by the RPG elements. But, I was left disappointed with the overall experience of The New Colossus. Like many others, I had issues with the level design. The gunplay felt as good as ever though, and if they can do what they did with The New Order, I'll be a happy player.
