The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Mod Turns The Entire Game Into A Gwent Tournament

Do you like Gwent? Try this mod out for The Witcher 3.

Life on the Path can be hard for a Witcher sometimes, especially with all those pesky monsters throwing a spanner in the works while you're trying to save the world. Luckily Geralts on the PC version of CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can get a bit of breather, put down their silver swords and armor, and just play a nice game of Gwent.

All of this is possible thanks to a modder over at the Witcher portion of NexusMods, who has made a mod called 'Heart of Cards' that replaces all encounters with enemy humans, monsters and ghosts with a battle of wits on the Gwent board. The best thing about this is that you can still play the campaign and the sidequests as you normally would, but slap enemies around the ears with a great card combo.

Enemy decks scale to enemy difficulty, and every time you or an enemy takes damage the game will start up a Gwent session with every enemy getting a completely randomized deck. If you manage to win the encounter, up to 30 of the enemies close to you will instantly die. All the features mention before are in the mod right now, with tiered loot tables, the ability to buy booster packs in shops and the ability to generate random decks coming at a later date. If you're on PC and you want your playthrough to have a completely different feel to it, you can get the mod plus instructions on how to install it here. Because let's be honest here, we're all playing this game for the Gwent card game anyway.

Quick Take

And this is why I love the PC as a platform. It's amazing what the community can come up with if they are given the tools for the job. I've spent countless hours playing the (admittedly easy in later stages) Gwent game, and this seems like a perfect fit for everyone who doesn't want to spend too much time in taverns.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
