The player, a Space Marine, facing a daemon of Chaos in Warhammer 40k: Boltgun

Are you ready to take up arms once more in the name of the God-Emperor? A new Warhammer 40k: Boltgun extended gameplay trailer has been released, featuring around 7 minutes of glorious heretic-slaying to whet your appetite ahead of the game's impending release next week.

If you're not aware of Warhammer 40k: Boltgun, it's an upcoming boomer shooter set in the 40k universe. You are a Space Marine, anointed by holy order to cleanse the universe of heretics, which means pretty much anyone except those faithful to the Emperor. That's a pretty solid setup for a shooter: take up thy boltgun and thy chainsword and rend the flesh of anything that moves.

Boltgun is launching in just a few days' time, and Focus Entertainment has released a brand new gameplay trailer that gives you an in-depth look at the enemies you'll be slaying and the holy arsenal you'll be using to slay them. The gameplay looks just as brutal and fast-paced as you'd expect from the genre, so if you're ready to get your adrenaline flowing, take a look at the trailer here.

Throughout the trailer, the player can be seen battling the minions of Chaos, as well as the beasts of Nurgle and many other heretical enemies besides. It's a 3D sprite-based game akin to titles like Prodeus, so everything's got a nice chunky pixel splatter feel to it. Suffice it to say that if you love Warhammer 40k and boomer shooters, this is a match made in heaven for you.

Warhammer 40k: Boltgun launches for PC, PlayStation consoles, Xbox platforms, and Nintendo Switch on May 23rd. Make sure to keep that date on your calendar if you're looking for a more direct, less tactical take on the 40k universe, and don't forget to praise the Emperor or the Space Marines might think you're a heretic.
