Fatshark has revealed some of what's in store for grimdark multiplayer shooter Warhammer 40,000: Darktide this year. Over the course of 2024, the game will receive new content including enemies, weapons, and more.
In a brief post on Darktide's Steam page, Fatshark says the first order of business is a "comprehensive revamp and expansion" of the game's penance system.
This revamp will include lots of extra rewards and a new way to earn them. The studio says it'll share more about exactly what this penance revamp entails in a blog post later this month, so watch out for more on that.

After the penance rework, Fatshark says it's looking to completely overhaul Warhammer 40,000: Darktide's itemization process.
The new system, according to Fatshark, will de-emphasize "the unpredictable grind that came from an RNG-heavy system", and will also give players more agency, alongside "a steady manner to progress toward specific loadouts, blessings, and stats refinement".
All of this will come alongside new enemies, weapons, conditions, and missions, plus new gameplay features. Of course, balance updates and quality-of-life improvements are also planned for 2024, as well as "some other surprises". Exciting!

If you're not up on Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, it's a multiplayer first-person shooter in the vein of Left 4 Dead. Set in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, the game is a spiritual successor to Fatshark's popular Warhammer: Vermintide titles.
Darktide boasts a story penned in part by longtime Black Library scribe Dan Abnett. It casts you as an Inquisition conscript who must investigate and destroy the Nurgle cult across the Hive City of Tertium.
The game was released for PC back in November 2022, with an Xbox Series X|S version following in October last year. In November, an anniversary update was released for the game, bringing a new Zone, new quality-of-life changes, and more.
