The trailer takes place in a Japanese-inspired locale called Kaidan and features a story of the samurai Sakura, who is clouded by darkness and slaughters all the citizens in her path. The actual in-game event will feature a mode called Soul Rush, which Ubisoft later elaborated on in a press release:
As part of the in-game event, the new game mode Soul Rush will show Heroes clashing in Kaidan, a dark village believed haunted by Sakura's victims. Players are tasked with defeating soldiers to collect their Souls and secure them in the Soul Zones to gain them permanently for their team. Once a team collects 1000 Souls, the enemy team will break, giving players a chance to seal their victory.Players who participate in this new mode can earn exclusive rewards available only during the event, which runs from June 10-27. From now until July 1, players can also choose to purchase the Shadows of the Hitokiri Bundles in the game store in order to instantly unlock Illustrious Outfits, effects, a themed emote, and more. The cost of the bundle is adjusted based on how many of these items you already own.
The team also announced the For Honor will be getting Spectator Mode to accommodate for the game's growing competitive community. The official release date for this mode will be announced a later date.
For those suddenly interested in Ubisoft's melee-focused multiplayer, the company also announced that new players can try out For Honor with any hero for free from now until June 17.
