Devolver Digital has released a Beginner's Guide trailer showcasing what players can expect from the upcoming relaxing city-building title, Terra Nil. This gives us a first look at how not only to survive within the ecosystem but how to thrive.
Terra Nil takes everything you know about a city-builder and flips it on its head. Rather than starting from complete scratch and building in order to create a thriving environment to pump out resources, the player's job is to take a dying wasteland and turn it into something beautiful. It's kind of like working backward, rather than trying to progress forward with crazy technology. The idea is quite simple; take this barren and desolate land that can no longer support life and make it safe for flora and fauna alike.
In the trailer, we see a few tips and tricks to creating a thriving ecosystem, including the ability to scan the grounds around our base in order to pinpoint exactly what requirements need to be met to keep the wildlife alive and healthy nearby. Again, think of it as working backward. Humans have destroyed the soil, air, and water around these poor creatures just trying to live in their habitats.
Rather than using fossil fuels and other means, players will need to harness the power around them within these environments to create electricity. We will need to cleanse and purify the water in order to breathe life back into the vegetation to begin the healing process, all by using natural and clean energy to do so. Toxin Scrubbers are also vital to the healing process, as they are able to cleanse the soil around the base as well as the water supply.
The game goes in depth in terms of how to save the world around us by creating new environments from broken ones. Whether that be by manipulating the weather and climate conditions or even by terraforming the ground around the base in order to build ponds, rivers, plants, trees, and more. While the goal is always the same, the way we choose to create new thriving ecosystems is not.
Terra Nil will release on March 28, 2023, on IOS, Android, and PC via Steam.
