Today Telltale Series has confirmed that it has laid off a number of employees, while the games currently in development remain in the pipeline for the time being.
Layoffs were first reported by former employees on social media and we reached out to Telltale asking for confirmation.
The developer did get back to us to confirm the layoffs, prompted by "market conditions," pledging that all games currently in development are still being worked on.
We also hear that the studio is working to support everyone impacted, and severance packages were also confirmed in the initial report.
Here's the statement in its entirety.
Due to current market conditions, we regrettably had to let some of our Telltale team go recently. We did not take this action lightly, and our commitment to storytelling and finding new ways to do so remains the same. We are grateful to everyone for their dedication along this journey, and we are working to support everyone impacted. All projects currently in development are still in production, and we have no further updates at this time.
At the moment, Telltale has recently debuted The Expanse: A Telltale Series, while The Wolf Among Us 2 has been delayed beyond 2023.
It has been several years since the announcement of TWAU2 in 2019, but it appears that we'll have to wait quite a bit longer for the sequel to be made available.
This appears to be a remarkably tough period for the gaming industry and its workers, as many layoffs have been confirmed both by large players like Embracer, Epic Games, and Xbox, and many smaller ones.
