Last weekend saw the Capcom Pro tour wrap up at an event held at San Francisco’s Warfield theatre. In addition to seeing this year’s premier professional fighting game series get wrapped up in electrifying fashion, the sold out crowd was also treated to the first demo of the upcoming Street Fighter V. Capcom community manager Peter Rosas played against TwitchTv fighting game rep Mike Ross in a classic matchup of Ryu vs Chung Li.

Reactions to the Street Fighter V trailer have been varied so far, with certain people suffering DMCA claims, purportedly for posting less than positive reviews. The Capcom Faithful, however, seem pretty enthused about the upcoming addition to the legendary fighting series. It’s clear from the following video that the crowd at the Warfield was absolutely giddy over the reveal of the character, Charlie.

The demo match revealed some tweaks to the power EX special systems and, amusingly, new interactive environmental mechanics like kicking people through walls and having noodle bowls crash onto their heads than they then have to wear for the rest of the match.

The tournament itself saw team Evil Genius’s Japanese player Momochi  topple last year’s cup winner RZR Xian, earning himself the 30 thousand dollar to prize. Xian avenged his loss to the legendary Daigo Umehara at this year’s Asia series final, while Daigo beat his long-time rival Justin Wong.

Capcom fighters subscribers can watch the event on Twitch. You can also see a breakdown of Cup winner Momochi’s winning technique here.

The new game’s exclusivity with the Sony PlayStation 4 remains controversial, with many Xbox one owners feeling the string. On the other hand, it was announced over the weekend that Sony’s sponsorship will lead to a prize pot for next year’s Capcom Fighter’s tour that will total at least half a million dollars. Whether or not the exclusive deal drives people towards or away from the new game remains to be seen.
