Shoryuken Invitational at Tokyo Game Show 2017 Results

The Tokyo Game Show Shoryuken Invitational at, well, Tokyo, is an 8-man tournament featuring the highest tier talents you could possibly bring to an event such as this. The winner receives 1 million yen, and with a single-elimination bracket, it is typically a short, but action-packed bout.

Streaming was done in English at Capcom Channel on Twitch. As usual, players will be listed in “[sponsor/team name] | [player name] [[characters used]]” format.

Surprising no one, the best Urien in the world, Nemo, took the top spot, making not only his wallet fatter, but possibly his belly too, thanks to also winning a year's worth of Cup Noodle. The Evo champion, Tokido, came in second place and was also given a cash prize of 500,000 yen for his trouble. NuckleDu, who just barely finished another invitational in Canada just a few days prior, came in tied at third with Bonchan, who used Karin instead of his popular Nash for the entire tournament. It's probably safe to say she's his new main, but she's definitely competition-ready. Bonchan managed to score a 19-second perfect against Fuudo in the first round of the tournament, and then a lightning fast 15-second perfect on Tokido in the second.

All in all, the event was an awe-striking display of skill, and worth watching if you have the time. Unfortunately, most people expected a new announcement during the tournament; either a reveal of the last character of the 2017 season, or perhaps the rumored Street Fighter V: Arcade Edtion. But alas, we received neither of those. Instead, we got twenty minutes of commentators hilariously joking around after the tournament due to being stuck in front of the camera thanks to no one giving them the signal to sign off.
