Today Bethesda has released the beta version of the next patch for its latest RPG Starfield, numbered 1.10.30, and it's a big one.
As usual for beta patches, the update will be available only as an opt-in option on Steam and will be propagated to Xbox and Windows Store as soon as Bethesda deems that it has been tested enough.
Normally, the full release doesn't include many surprises, and the patch launches on other platforms with the same content as it did on Steam.
According to Bethesda, this is the patch with the "largest number of fixes and improvements yet."
If you look at the patch notes, that certainly seems to be the case, considering that they're almost 7,500 words long, including a metric ton of fixes to art, quests, graphics, gameplay, outposts, saving and loading, ships, text and localization, and user interface.
The main changes to features included in the patch are as follows.
- PHOTOMODE: Added the ability to set Expressions and Poses on player and companions in Photomode.
- SCANNER: You can now open doors and harvest with the scanner opened.
- Setting course on an inactive quest will now make it the active quest.
- Added support for adjusting FOV when using 3rd Person Ship view.
- Added an Anisotropic filtering quality slider (PC).
- Removed the digipick cost for using Undo during the Security mini-game.
- Added an autosave when fast travelling from a planet's surface to orbit.
- Updated the Ship UI to perform more smoothly at higher framerates.
While the number of features in the update isn't large and arguably there isn't much in there that is groundbreaking, the massive volume of fixes certainly makes up for it.
Bethesda has been updating the game regularly since its release, with a new patch promised roughly for every six weeks. We have also been promised new ways to travel, city maps, and official mod support, which is coming at some point early this year, albeit we don't know when just yet.
Starfield is currently out for PC (both on the Windows Store and on Steam) and Xbox Series X|S. Game Pass subscribers also get to play at no additional cost. If you so wish, you can also buy a physical copy on Amazon.
