Today Bethesda released a new update for Starfield on all platforms bringing a ton of changes and fixes to the sci-fi RPG.

While the update (numbered 1.9.51.0) is brand-new for many, it may not be for you if you took part in the Steam beta that was released earlier this month, albeit one fix for a crash has been added.

The update has been defined as the "biggest yet" for the game and it certainly includes tons of fixes and changes, as you can see in the official patch notes, which are indeed very extensive.

From the point of view of visuals, the update focuses on improving lighting, reflections, and shadows. On the other hand, a rather massive amount of fixes and quality-of-life improvements should make your gameplay considerably smoother.

The new crash fix on PC was for a particularly annoying instance that caused the game to close when changing from fullscreen to windowed mode.

We also get more widescreen options (32:9, 21:9, and 16:10), quite a few fixes for outposts, a few for powers, and a lot for quests, which is quite relevant in a game like this.

Bethesda also renewed its pledge to release updates for the game more or less every six weeks, so you can expect more changes and fixes to come in about a month and a half.

Starfield is currently out for PC (both on the Windows Store and on Steam) and Xbox Series X|S, on top of Game Pass. If you haven't jumped into the game yet and this new update gives you the confidence to give it a try, you can buy a copy on Amazon.

If you need to read more before you make the jump, you can read our review, which awarded Starfield with an 8 out of 10.

While the new update addresses many issues, there are quite a few goodies that have been announced and are still being developed, like new ways to travel, city maps, and FSR3 and XeSS support. Fans are also still waiting for official mod support, which should come early this year.
