A new game has been unveiled by Square Enix, titled Antique Carnevale.

Little is known about the game at this time, other than a Japanese website promising a new announcement on July 18th. A short teaser trailer was also linked to the website.

DualShockers has a bit more information, most notably a translation of the text on the website and the video. The character in the video is named Bernhard, and four new characters, each shown in silhouette form in the video, will be unveiled over the next few weeks. Bernhard is described as "the incarnation of the summoned beast Wyvern." He also has a strong sense of justice but headstrong, and has been tasked with a mission to find "the next generation strongest master."

The story, also translated by Dualshockers, discusses the differences between "dolls" and "people", and when upon entering some sort of labyrinth, is a doll really a thing that can't move on its own?  The full translation is as follows:

Have you ever thought about the difference between “things” and “living things?” Or the difference between a “doll” and a “person.” If you ask, people will probably answer “they’re not able to move on their own.” However, after entering the labyrinth… Is a “doll” really a thing that can’t move on its own? Is a “person” really someone who moves the doll of his own volition? Wandering about while seeking an exit, the traveler gets completely lost… And the one boy who visited the labyrinth… He will listen. The lingering cry of that “person” who decayed in the labyrinth. He will know. The wishes of the “doll” trapped in the labyrinth. To that young man standing between the “person” and the “doll”… We pray.
The information is sparse, but it appears that the game will see a difference between humans and dolls, and both will have a role to play when traversing these mentioned labyrinths, possibly meaning the game may include dungeon crawling and working together with these dolls to survive.

The website itself also reveals information as well. While the game is likely an RPG of some kind, several tags for the website include "Chess," "Othello" and "Reversi," along with the tag "Board Games." While it is only speculation, it could be hinting at the game containing some kind of board-game element to the main battle mechanics, but this is unconfirmed at this time.

The next video for Antique Carnevale is scheduled to be released tomorrow, showcasing another character in the game.  No release date or platform has been announced at this time.
