Osaka-based developer SNK and Tokyo-based developer Arika have announced a deal to collaborate in the reviving of SNK's older IPs.
To be specific, the deal establishes that Arika will help SNK bring back IPs that aren't fighting games.
At the moment, the specific IPs involved have not been announced, and more details will be shared at a later date.
The press release mentions that SNK owns over 200 game brands including NEOGEO, and it's currently working on an initiative to bring back some of them. The decision to collaborate with Arika is part of this effort since the company has excellent game development resources and is familiar with SNK's IPs.
It'll certainly be interesting to see which IPs will be brought back, as SNK definitely has a vast back catalog of games that veteran gamers have loved and could certainly use a fresh coat of paint.
If you're unfamiliar with Arika, the company has a long history of development since its foundation in 1995 by former Capcom staff. Its most well-known achievement is likely the creation of the Street Fighter EX sub-franchise in 1996. Its setting and characters have been recently brought back with Fighting EX Layer.
Arika is also not new to working as a support developer for other companies, and it collaborated in the creation of Tekken 8, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Chocobo GP, and more.
As for SNK itself, following the release of Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters XV, the company is currently working on a brand new Garou Densetsu title named Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and recently teased the development of a new Art of Fighting game.
Of course, you can expect to hear more about the collaboration between SNK and Arika here on Techraptor as soon as the two developers decide to announce something more specific.
