It appears that our sweet little chicken race has reached its final finish line, as Square Enix has announced that the Season 5 Chocobo GP update will not only be the final large-scale update headed to the game but that the Mythril Shop will be closed indefinitely.
The Mighty Chocobo's Last Hurrah
According to the Square Enix Support Centre, there will not be any more large updates heading to Chocobo GP after today. So, what exactly does that mean? There will not be any new characters added, no new maps to race through, and the Mythril Shop will be closed for good.
As of today, the e-shop to purchase Mythril has been closed, but those who still have some of the in-game currency have a chance to spend it before it goes away entirely on January 6, 2023. With that said, those who do not have anything to spend it on are out of luck, as Square says that there is no way to get a refund for unused Mythril at this time. Square does mention there will be a few new items headed to the Mythril shop during Season 5 in order to give those who held onto the in-game currency some new things to purchase for the last time.
It isn't all bad news today though, as even though this is the final major update for the racing game, Chocobo GP will still be playable. Plus the latest update brings us new characters, such as Croma and Volg who come with their own custom outfits to boot. A new course has also been added to the game, Midgar, which was inspired by Final Fantasy VII. On top of the new racing course and characters, there are seasonal stickers and costumes to enjoy during the holiday season. Whether you want to be an adorable red-nosed reindeer, Frosty the snowman, or even the magic man who makes it all happen (Santa Claus of course!), the costumes have you covered.
