Remedy's New Trademark "FBC: Firebreak" Could Be Its Multiplayer Control Spinoff Project Condor

Remedy has filed a new trademark for something called FBC: Firebreak, suggesting that we finally have a name for the studio's upcoming multiplayer Control spinoff.

The trademark, which was first spotted by Respawn First, is publicly viewable via the European Union Intellectual Property Office. It principally covers "computer gaming software", but also branches out into clothing and multimedia, suggesting that FBC: Firebreak could cover more than just video games.

While the codename for the project isn't mentioned anywhere, it's very possible that FBC: Firebreak is the final name for Project Condor, a multiplayer game set in the universe of the 2019 action-adventure game Control.

FBC: Firebreak could be the final name for Remedy's upcoming Control spinoff.

If FBC: Firebreak isn't Control-related, the name seems like a pretty big coincidence; the FBC likely refers to Control's Federal Bureau of Control, and Firebreaks are chasms separating areas in the Bureau's Oldest House HQ.

Naturally, the trademark doesn't contain any more information regarding what direction the project is heading in, but it does give us an idea of what we might be calling it when it does arrive.

At present, we don't have a release date for FBC: Firebreak (if, indeed, that's what it's called), although Remedy said back in October that the project was in the "production readiness stage".

Remedy's latest game is horror adventure Alan Wake 2.

It's also worth remembering that Project Condor (and likely by extension FBC: Firebreak) isn't the same game as Project Vanguard, another multiplayer shooter on which Remedy is currently working.

That game is still in the works, although Remedy rebooted development back in November in order to switch to a premium business model. The game had previously been announced as a free-to-play title.

FBC: Firebreak could well be a while away, but it stands a good chance of arriving before Control 2 does; according to Remedy, the sequel is still in the proof-of-concept stage.

Stay tuned for more news on all things Remedy and FBC: Firebreak, whatever it turns out to be.
