Subscription exclusivity is common among TV shows and even movies. Could it happen with Xbox Game Pass in the future?
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer denied that possibility in an interview with the Japanese website Game Watch, mentioning that it goes against Microsoft's philosophy of providing the users with choice.
"No. That's not it. We want to offer choice. Xbox is not just about Xbox Game pass. Real success for Xbox is to have more people playing Xbox, and not just on Xbox consoles, but on PC, in the cloud, or on another console."
Spencer continued by reiterating that the objective is to expand the community that plays in the Xbox ecosystem, and they're not going to do anything that would hinder that.
Spencer added that alongside the launch of Starfield, Xbox Game Pass has been doing very well, and he believes Microsoft will keep launching even bigger games on the service.
After Bethesda's RPG, Forza Motorsport is coming and Spencer thinks Microsoft is achieving the vision of releasing major games on Game Pass with a regular cadence.
He also mentioned that, while it may be inevitable to further increase the price in the future, the prerequisite is to boost the value provided as well. Microsoft has increased the price recently, and that decision was taken after careful consideration.
Just a few days ago Spencer revealed that the number of PC Game Pass subscribers has more than quadrupled in Asia (including Japan) over the last three years.
During the same interview, Spencer explained why he's not pushing Hideo Kojima to reveal his new game developed in partnership with Xbox Game Studios.
