Today at the Sony PlayStation Event at Paris Games Week Sony took the time to announce Onrush, an upcoming racing title by Codemasters. Featuring a variety of vehicles, crazy courses, and stunts from what little we saw, it looks like a more arcadey racing game that has been seen less recently in comparison to the big simulation racers like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport.
ONRUSH marks the first title for the new Codemasters Cheshire, which is made up of developers who had previously been at Evolution Studios (Driveclub) before that was closed down last year by Sony. It features a marked turn away from the traditional AAA space of simulation racing, such as Gran Turismo Sport, and Forza Motorsport, to bare-knuckle arcade racing. Speed, and spectacle are the name of the game in ONRUSH as it works to take ideas from arcade racers of yore.
The game also encourages you to do outrageous stunts and things in play with the RUSH bar, a meter that fills up as you perform stylistic and flashy moves to provide a big power up. When you use your RUSH bar, it produces a devastating force that can wreak havoc on your competition to help you put the race on ice.
ONRUSH Game Director Paul Rustchynsky said
“We are extremely excited to finally be able to talk about ONRUSH. The team grew up playing iconic, arcade racing games so it is great to have the opportunity to re-imagine those experiences on today’s consoles and bring something fresh to the market. We believe that it is something that gamers are crying out for.”ONRUSH will be releasing in Summer 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is being published by Deep Silver and will retail for $59.99
“The most important factor in the game is that it has to be fun. It is not about tire choices, car setups or even racing lines; it’s about edge of your seat action and taking death defying risks in order to reap the biggest rewards.”
