A giant bird pal in Palworld

As the commercial success of Palworld continues to grow, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe took to X to denounce comments received from part of the community.

Mizobe-san posted on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account that the company has been receiving slanderous comments against its artists, and they're seeing tweets that appear to be death threats.

He adds that while there have been a variety of opinions regarding the game, he's the one responsible for its production. He concludes by mentioning that he would appreciate it if people refrained from directing slander toward the artists who worked on Palworld

Sheep-like pals in Palworld

Palworld has sold over 5 million copies on Steam alone, without counting other platforms like Xbox and Game Pass. It has also reached a rather flattering 1,582,482 concurrent players peak on Valve's platform. It's the third-highest of all time behind PUBG and Counter-Strike 2.

At the moment of this writing, 912,974 players are playing the game on Steam according to the monitoring site SteamDB

Palworld is currently available for PC, and Xbox, including a release on Microsoft's Game Pass, so at the moment we don't actually know the real extent of its popularity beyond what we heard about the Steam version. The actual number might be much bigger than what is reported, and the sudden visibility is certainly a contributing factor in amplifying the negativity from part of the fanbase.

The game has been in development for about three years, created by a small group of indie developers from Japan. It follows Pocketpair's previous release, another crafting survival game titled Craftopia, currently still in early access following its partial release in 2020.
