Bandai Namco has announced a brand new Pac-Man battle royale experience, and it looks...deeply odd.

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs pits 64 players (Pac-Men? Pac-People?) against each other, but only one can emerge victorious.

You must eat Power Pellets, ghosts, and...uh, other Pac-Men in order to become the last Pac standing. Try not to let the cannibalistic implications of that trouble you for too long.

Chomp Champs will feature full cross-platform play, as well as both casual and ranked modes for testing your mettle against other Pac-Man battle royale fans.

You can check out the debut trailer for Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs right here.

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs will have you competing across a series of different themed mazes. You'll have to jump from maze to maze as they collapse, too, adding a ticking clock element to proceedings.

You'll also be able to customize your Pac-Person with lots of cosmetic items, helping your giant eldritch yellow dot stand out from the giant eldritch yellow dot crowd.

If you're thinking that Chomp Champs looks familiar, it's probably because you played the original Mega Tunnel Battle, which was a Stadia exclusive released back in 2020.

Naturally, Mega Tunnel Battle died a death alongside the rest of Stadia earlier this year, but former Stadia exclusives have gradually been coming to other systems, with fellow former exclusive Gylt also getting a multiplatform release in summer.

Like the original Stadia release, Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs will be an online-only game, so you won't be able to play it in single-player or in local multiplayer with just your friends.

In any case, this rather strange new Pac-Man battle royale game is set to arrive on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch sometime in early 2024. It should go some way towards softening the recent blow of Pac-Man 99's shutdown.
