A massive, bustling metropolis with plenty of skyscrapers in Cities: Skylines 2

A brand new Cities: Skylines 2 video has been released, and it's all about city progression, milestones, and the various ways in which you can grow your city.

Earlier this week, Colossal Order and Paradox gave us an introduction to the ways in which your city will expand and grow in Cities: Skylines 2, and now, designer Lauri Jääskeläinen features in a new video that goes into more detail.

Jääskeläinen says that Cities: Skylines 2 will feature milestones, just like the first game, but in the sequel, you'll unlock milestones by gaining something called Expansion Points.

There are two ways of obtaining these points: placing buildings or placing roads. You can also get Expansion Points passively when citizen happiness goes up or when your population increases.

There are lots of milestones to work towards in Cities: Skylines 2, and as rewards for hitting them, you'll get boons like an increased loan limit, more cash, expansion permits, and more.

You'll also earn Development Points, which you can use to progress through service trees for features like roads, power, and water.

These trees contain new features that you can unlock by spending Development Points. Examples might include unlocking roundabouts for roads, for instance, or geothermal power plants for the power tree.

You could, for example, focus on education and unlock colleges and universities earlier, or you could specialize in transportation and unlock airports and other transport features before expanding your education system.

Cities: Skylines 2 is currently set for an October 24th release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

As a sequel to the popular Cities: Skylines, it'll take the city-building blueprint established by that game and expand on it with features like a much larger play area, improved traffic AI, and road improvements.

The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one, so if you're a subscriber, you get to enjoy it at no additional cost.
