A dataminer and YouTuber known as Shrugtal has discovered new details about a possible Apex Legends Tropics map — we may soon head to Gaea in Respawn Entertainment's Battle Royale on PC and consoles.

Apex Legends is a Battle Royale game, and that means the developers over at Respawn need to keep releasing fresh content on a regular basis. It started with just one map and eventually introduced other locales for players to explore. Now, a new video by YouTuber Shrugtal indicates that a brand-new map may be making its debut next Season.

What We Know About the Apex Legends Tropics Map

The Apex Legends tropics map has been rumored for some time — as Shrugtal himself points out, "mp_rr_tropic_island" was first discovered roughly one year ago. He adds that one year is roughly the amount of time it takes for Respawn Entertainment to complete a map.

Shrugtal wasn't the only one to notice this, though — a submission on the Apex Legends subreddit reports that a developer accidentally showed a list of maps during a livestream. That list of maps included — you guessed it — mp_rr_tropic_island.

So, where is this island? Shrugtal speculates that it may be in a muddy, tropical area, based in part on textures for a muddy Trident variant named "hover_vehicle_tropics." He further speculates that the map will be centered on these vehicles to an even greater extent than before. This map may very well be Gaea, the home planet of Rampart, Caustic, and Crypto.

Technically speaking, the Apex Legends tropics map isn't the only map in development — the reference "mp_rr_ai_wildlife" was also discovered buried in the game's code. Shrugtal believes that this is a sign that Respawn is aiming to expand the scope of wild animals in future Seasons of Apex Legends.

As always, we can't say for certain whether or not this map will debut this coming Season (or at all, really) until it's officially announced. For now, there's still plenty of fun to be had in the game; you can play Apex Legends for free on PC and consoles via its official website.

What do you think of the evidence for the Apex Legends tropics map? Where would you like to go next? Let us know in the comments below!
