Update April 3rd 8:26AM: Respawn has confirmed that the Apex Legends servers are back online.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the studio says it's working to restore progress lost since the rollback. The developer also says the new Ranked Split has been postponed, and that more info will be available at a later date.
Original story follows below.
Original story: Apex Legends players are reporting that they're losing varying degrees of account-wide progress after the game's season 20 mid-season ranked reset.
Users on the Apex Legends subreddit, including Worried_Community and Bangaloaf, have reported losing levels and stats, as well as access to the game's battle pass.
The issue has become widespread enough that moderators temporarily placed the subreddit in restricted mode in order to prevent players swamping it with posts about account progress loss.
Apex Legends developer Respawn confirmed it was aware of the problem shortly after it was first reported, promising to investigate and update as appropriate.
The studio then announced it had rolled out an update to address the issue, and that accounts logging into the game after the update would "not experience any lost progress or content".
Accounts that had already lost progress or content prior to the update's arrival, however, were advised to "hang tight" while Respawn worked on an additional fix to restore said content to affected accounts.
However, several hours later, Respawn said it had "messed up" and that it was taking the Apex Legends servers offline to deploy a "fast fix", with works projected to take around an hour from that point (which was about three hours ago at time of writing).
At time of writing, the situation still appears to be developing. We were able to successfully log into Apex Legends, but only after receiving a message that no servers were available for us to play on.
It's also not clear whether this fix has actually addressed the issue or not, so it's probably safest to hold off on playing Apex Legends until Respawn confirms that all affected accounts have been restored.
This isn't the first time Apex Legends and Respawn have been in fans' crosshairs recently; during an esports event last month, professional players were hacked and given unfair advantages over their teammates, leading Respawn to deploy updates in order to shore up its security.
Respawn has also unfortunately been part of the ongoing wave of industry layoffs, with multiple ex-Respawn employees confirming the loss of their positions in March.
Hopefully, Respawn will be able to implement a solution to this account progress issue soon. Stay tuned for more.
