Little Nightmares III has been confirmed. Bandai Namco took to the stage at this year's Gamescom Opening Night Live to reveal the next installment in the horror platformer series.

The Little Nightmares III Reveal

The Little Nightmares III trailer continues the horror series' distinct surreal look.

Much like Little Nightmares 2, you will control one of two characters, Lone and Alone, as they attempt to escape the nightmarish world known as the Nowhere.

Gameplay in Little Nightmares is a mix of stealth and physics platforming. Players must use their environment to either hide or distract disturbing monsters and solve puzzles in order to escape.

Each section in the games are made up of different titular nightmares. One section could be a surreal classroom with a twisted-looking teacher, or a butcher shop with a very aggressive shopkeeper.

Little Nightmares III is being developed by Supermassive Games, most well-known for horror titles The Quarry, Until Dawn, the VR titles Switchback and Rush of Blood, and The Dark Pictures series, and will be published by Bandai Namco. This is a notable departure since the last two Little Nightmares games were developed by the Sweden-based developer, Tarsier Studios, which were bought by Embracer Group in 2019.

Fans of Little Nightmares were concerned that the series wouldn't continue with this acquisition. This is interesting since the fates of certain characters were left unresolved. As for whether or not these new developers will continue or resolve these dangling plot threads remains to be seen.

Little Nightmares Podcast - The Sound of Nightmares Announced

Furthermore, a companion podcast series will be released. Titled The Sound of Nightmares, the podcast will bring new audio and narrative atmosphere to the world of Little Nightmares.

The podcast will be six episodes in total with the first two episodes released later today.

Little Nightmares III is set to release sometime in 2024.
