The Rogue Prince of Persia Delayed to Dodge Hades 2

Evil Empire has delayed the release of the upcoming roguelite platformer The Rogue Prince of Persia to avoid competition with a certain other roguelite.

Evil Empire has announced that The Rogue Prince of Persia has been delayed, and it's all thanks to Supergiant Games and its latest roguelite extravaganza.

In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today, Evil Empire says it's "decided to let people have their fun" with Supergiant's Hades 2, which surprise-launched earlier this week, before The Rogue Prince of Persia launches.

The new release date hasn't been announced yet, but Evil Empire says the game will still be coming out sometime in May. A new launch date will be announced on Monday, the studio says.

Evil Empire says that it has "every confidence" in its game, but that "it's not every day" that a rival game in the same genre launches into Early Access "a week before you plan to do the same".

The studio admirably admits that it's "not prideful enough to ignore the implications" of Hades 2 launching at around the same time as its game, but lest you wonder whether the delay is purely motivated by Supergiant's game, that's not the case.

According to Evil Empire, this The Rogue Prince of Persia delay will also allow the devs to polish the game up and banish some particularly troublesome bugs prior to launch.

Since we're part of the way through May already, the delay isn't likely to be too significant, so you probably won't have to wait more than another week or two to check out The Rogue Prince of Persia.

In case you're wondering what The Rogue Prince of Persia actually is, it's a roguelite platformer developed by Evil Empire, one of the developers behind Dead Cells.

The studio describes its game as a "challenging but accessible roguelite" with a fast pace, a seamless flow between platforming and combat, and "non-linear story progression". In other words, if you love Dead Cells, you'll likely be right at home here.

The Rogue Prince of Persia launches sometime this month on PC via Steam Early Access. You can check out our preview of the game here to find out what our very own Andrew Stretch thought of it.
