Arrowhead Game Studios and PlayStation have released a new Helldivers 2 update that pledges to fix some of the pesky connection issues that have plagued the game since its launch last week.
Earlier this week, Arrowhead's CEO Johan Pilestedt apologized to players for ongoing login issues and reward problems, promising that his studio will continue to work on those problems. This update is part of Arrowhead's promised fixes.
In a Steam post announcing the update, Arrowhead says it's focused on three main areas: improving general stability, preparing the game's build for "upcoming server matchmaking improvements", and resolving connection issues.
Per the game's newest patch notes, fixes include a crash when closing the game shortly after startup, as well as crashes that would happen during the extraction cutscene.
Helldivers 2 should also no longer crash when a user profile has too many friends, nor should it crash during a number of other instances, including other users disconnecting during a joining cutscene.
Arrowhead also says it's "improved backend connectivity", reducing the likelihood of players disconnecting during missions, and that the matchmaking experience and "likelihood of success" have been improved.
All told, it's not quite the silver bullet that will put an end to all of Helldivers 2's connection problems, but you may find that it's easier to connect to matches now, which is no bad thing.
If you haven't come across Helldivers 2 (somehow), it's a co-op shooter that launched to enormous success last week.
The game was released simultaneously on PS5 and PC, and it tasks players with teaming up in order to address an emerging insect threat that's overwhelming the galaxy.
If you can imagine a game that's somewhere between the original Helldivers, Earth Defense Force, and Starship Troopers: Extermination, then you're in the right ballpark for Helldivers 2.
You can check the game out right now on PC and PlayStation 5.
