We originally reported a few weeks ago that .hack//G.U. Last Recode - the HD remaster collection of the .hack//G.U. trilogy - would be receiving a 4th volume when it released later this year. We knew when the game was coming out in Japan, November 1st, but we didn't have any specifics about the release date outside of Japan. Thankfully, western players won't have long to wait for the game, as the title will reach North America on November 3rd, only a few short days after the Japanese release. Bandai Namco has uploaded a new trailer commemorating the game's release date announcement, detailing various improvements made to the titles in the collection, and celebrating the .hack// series as a whole.

Besides the addition of the new 4th volume - named Reconnection in the west - Last Recode will run at 1080p/60FPS, 16:9 aspect ratio, and will come with a suite of gameplay changes. Two major ones highlighted in the trailer above are "Cheat Mode", which lets players start the game with max stats in order to steamroll through the games just to see the story, and the ability to retry boss fights instantly instead of being greeted by a game over screen. While not gone over in any real depth, the trailer also flashes a few words by like increased movement speed, boss balance improvements, and more. Regardless, we'll see the full breadth of improvements the games have to offer when Last Recode releases on PlayStation 4 and PC on November 3rd.

Quick Take

I never got the chance to play .hack// nor .hack/G.U., but as I mentioned last time around - I'm definitely interested in giving the series a shot. Based off all the changes CyberConnect2 seem to be making to Last Recode, and the new content, I'm definitely getting the feeling this is as good a place as any for me to jump into the series.
