Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made the surprising announcement that a GTA: San Andreas Quest 2 version is in development, officially bringing the iconic game to VR for the first time ever.

It's a good time for fans of Grand Theft Auto games. Dataminers discovered clues that a remaster of the original trilogy was in the works and a pack of the three 3D-era games -- Grand Theft Auto 3Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was rated in Korea. A few days later, Rockstar Games officially announced the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.

Getting remasters of these iconic games was certainly a surprise, but Facebook Connect 2021 had something even bigger in store -- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming to VR.

GTA: San Andreas Quest 2 Version Brings a Classic to VR for the First Time Ever

The announcement of a GTA: San Andreas Quest 2 version was certainly one of the bigger surprises at Facebook Connect 2021 today, although it wasn't the only cool new thing announced by Facebook and Oculus.

"I'm excited to announce that the Rockstar Games classic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for Quest 2," Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the Facebook Connect 2021 livestream. "This new version of what I think is one of the greatest games ever made will offer players an entirely new way to experience this iconic open world in virtual reality."

A follow-up blog post on the Oculus website notes that this project has been "many years in the making" -- that means that we might not have to wait too long to actually be able to play it on the Oculus Quest 2.

Oculus also announced that Population: One will be getting a new Autumn event next month and a Winter Wonderland event in December. Additionally, Blade & Sorcery: Nomad is coming to the Quest 2 later this year. A release date for the GTA: San Andreas Quest 2 version has not yet been announced.
