Today the remaining games for the second round of the Player's Voice award at The Game Awards have been announced, with some big titles not making the cut.
Only ten games survived the first culling, with a third incoming.
The remaining titles are Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Genshin Impact, Hogwarts Legacy, Honkai: Star Rail, Lies of P, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Many rather big games have been eliminated at the first round, including Starfield, Diablo 4, Final Fantasy XVI, Armored Core VI, Counter-Strike 2, Mortal Kombat 1, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and more.
Strangely, the nominees included many games-as-a-service released before 2023. While that was certainly an odd choice, almost all have been eliminated with only HoYoverse's Genshin Impact holding its ground.
Big titles like Fortnite, Destiny 2, GTA Online, League of Legends, Minecraft, No Man's Sky, Valorant, and Warframe all have been kicked out of the competition, which certainly seems to indicate that fans may prefer to vote among games released this year as their... game of the year.
A new round of voting is now available with two days on the clock to get your vote in. This will lead to a third round, which will finally determine the winner.
It's worth mentioning that this is the only big award at The Game Awards that is primarily defined by the audience.
For all the other awards (you can find all the nominees at our dedicated article), the audience's vote determines only 10% of the result. The lion's share is taken by a jury of media and influencers.
I suppose you can vote for Fortnite's best user-created island if you feel like it. At least, it'll get you an XP bonus in the game, but it's worth mentioning that it lasts only for a single round.
