CyberConnect2 has released new information about the upcoming Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2. The developer has revealed how the story progresses into the game's second chapter, as well as spotlighting a character the intrepid cast of young soldiers will meet. There's also new info about game mechanics and more.

In the lead-up to Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2's May release date, CyberConnect2 has been drip-feeding new information about the game, including details about its story, characters, and mechanics. A new Twitter thread posted by the studio earlier today contains more of that info, showing that Melodies of Steel 2 is shaping up to be a solid sequel.

First up, CyberConnect2 follows up the story of the game's first chapter by revealing the setup for the second. The children follow the Tanaris' tracks, arriving at a ruined port that serves as a terminus for airships. They'll have to contend with this new mode of transportation if they want to find what happened to the tank and stop it from continuing on its destructive rampage.

Unfortunately, Malt, I think it probably did.

One of the new characters the children will meet in Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 is Count Nouvellune, a mysterious figure who has modeled his looks based on the in-universe comic book character of the same name. It's not yet clear what role Count Nouvellune will play in the story, but since we don't know his real identity, expect that to become a plot point.

As well as new story and character details, CyberConnect2 also showed off the Link Event mechanic. When you reach a certain affinity level between two characters, a Link Event will be triggered, which will further increase affinity and also give you new options in combat. War is hell, after all, and your kids need all the help they can get. Luckily, they'll also be able to upgrade their tank and fish on the ground for scrap, which will serve as material for upgrading.

That's also likely the rationale behind the Notebook, which contains the children's wishes. Granting those wishes gives them a boost in battle, and when mood reaches its maximum in combat, Hero Mode is activated. The effects of this mode are different for each character, so you'll have to experiment to find the combo that works best for you.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 is set to launch for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch on May 11th. It's also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one.
