Final Fantasy XIV XBox Version

Today Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV update 6.57, alongside some interesting details of the upcoming Xbox version of the game.

Interestingly, we learn the resolution options for Xbox Series X and Series X, alongside some more color on what we can expect from the launcher.

On top of that, Square Enix shared how the client of the game will interact with other Xbox players, showing familiar elements like Gamertags and icons.

Here are the full details as shared by the developers.

Launcher

The Xbox Series X|S version utilizes single sign-on (SSO) authentication. Once Square Enix accounts and Xbox (Microsoft) accounts are linked, players can skip the login process and launch the game directly.

Additionally, the Xbox Series X|S version launcher will display the player's Xbox gamertag.

Resolution

Xbox Series X supports three resolution options: 4K (2160p), WQHD (1440p), and Full HD (1080p).
* The default setting is WQHD.

Xbox Series S supports two resolution options: WQHD (1440p) and Full HD (1080p).
* The default setting is Full HD.

Mouse and Keyboard Controls

Like other platforms, Xbox Series X|S players now have the option to use mouse and keyboard controls.

Xbox Gamertag and Icon

The player's Xbox gamertag and icon will be displayed to fellow Xbox Series X|S players across the following UI windows:

Xbox Gamertag

  • Character
  • Examine
  • Examine (Deep Dungeons)
  • Doman Mahjong opponent list
  • Triple Triad tournament opponent list

Xbox Icon

  • Friends List (online players only)
  • Contact List

Recent Players

When joining a party with members also playing the Xbox Series X|S version, said members will be displayed under the "Recently played with" section of the Xbox Series X|S friends list.

Achievements

The Xbox Series X|S version features Xbox achievements that will be unlocked when their conditions are met. Additional achievements will be added in future patches.

It's worth mentioning that the open beta of the game on Xbox doesn't begin today, but as we recently heard, it will launch on February 21.

Players won't need Game Pass to play the beta (but it will be needed when the game launches on Xbox later this spring) and will be able to play on the live servers with PC, PS4, and PS5 players.

Progression will carry over into the full release and the beta version will have the same content, features, and limitations as the Free Trial version for PC; PS4, and PS5, on top of the fact that players won't be able to buy optional items from the Final Fantasy XIV online store.

It's also worth reminding that players who are already playing the game or the free trial on other platforms won't be able to play the beta on the same Square Enix account.

Moving on to version 6.57 proper, it comes with rather minor changes and a handful of bug fixes. You can check out the full patch notes on the official site for a full overview.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available on PS5, PS4, PC, and Mac. The game is one of the most successful MMORPGs on the market, having recently passed 30 million registered accounts. If you'd like to join, you can purchase a copy on Amazon.

A new expansion titled Dawntrail will be released in the summer of 2024. We don't yet know when it'll specifically launch besides the season, but can check out the latest cinematic trailer and the latest details.

Square Enix recently hosted a Fan Festival in London and Eorzean Symphony Orchestra, also in London. You can read our reports about both in case you missed them.
