Today Square Enix posted screenshots, details, and a video showcasing different types of Chocobos in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and what they can do.
Specifically, we get details about Forest Chocobos and Sea Chocobos on the site's official X (formerly Twitter) account.
We don't know whether their names will be adapted in English to plumage colors as in the original FFVII, but "Forest" and "Sea" are the literal translations of the names in Japanese.
Forest Chocobos show their strength in forests by jumping from large mushrooms and sliding on the branches of massive trees. They can help you explore dense forests where it's easy to get lost while also having fun.
Sea Chocobos can move freely on the sea and rivers thanks to water jets. They can float on water and their powerful water jets can carry you to secret spots that you can't reach on foot.
We also get a video showing both in action. Interestingly, the video also shows a Mountain-and-River Chocobo (black) capable of climbing cliffs, and a teal-colored one that appears to be gliding.

Looks like fans who love different Chocobos will have a lot of fun with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
The game is coming exclusively (at least for now) for PS5 on February 29, 2024. Incidentally, if you want to pre-order a physical copy, you can already head to Amazon to do that.
While we still have a couple of weeks to wait, you can read a lot about the game on our recent hands-on preview and our interview with game director Naoki Hamaguchi and producer Yoshinori Kitase, on top of an older interview.
We also have plenty of footage, and you can enjoy a story trailer and another trailer on top of plenty of impressive gameplay which was recently at a recent PlayStation State of Play broadcast. A demo is already available and will be updated with more content and even a graphics boost on February 21.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's release is definitely an important milestone for Square Enix, as it'll be crucial to the company's chances to achieve its full-year financial targets following a few mediocre quarters.
That being said, it appears to have good chances as it has won awards as the most anticipated game of the year at both The Game Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards.
