Today Square Enix showcased additional gameplay from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. This will be the second game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series after 2020 started Cloud's adventure anew.
We start with a quick look at gameplay and traversal in the area around the city of Kalm, including the fact that you can freely swim in bodies of water. We then pay a visit to a Chocobo ranch for a tutorial on how to catch Chocobos. In this game, it's a stealth minigame.
Gameplay showed Cloud and his party following the footprints of a group of Chocobos (this time around, they're actual footprints in the dirt), and when you find them, you can enjoy a stealth minigame.
You can use the tall grass to avoid being spotted and use stones to distract Chocobos to create opportunities. Various Chocobos have different capabilities and the stronger ones are harder to catch.
Once you get close, you'll be able to mount and tame the Chocobo by pressing Triangle. If you fail, you can retry, there's no penalty besides wasting a bit of time.
Chadley in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
We also meet Chadley who returns from the previous games. He can use towers to detect points of interest that you can perform kill tasks that will help you research specific Materia.
The video also showcases the Notice Board, which provides you with plenty of quests that you can enjoy fulfilling for rewards. Interestingly, certain quests focus on certain characters, allowing Cloud to deepen their bonds with them.
We then get to see the Mog House, the Queen's Blood card minigame, Chocobo customization, and more activities. Cloud can even play the piano.
You can watch the full video below. The gameplay part starts at 00:29:11.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth releases on PS5 on February 29, 2023 and it's going to be a PlayStation exclusive only for three months.
Incidentally, you should definitely read our hands-on preview in which our Erren Van Duine expresses her confidence that the game is already shaping up into something truly special.
Having played the same demo that she did at Tokyo Game Show coupled with today's gameplay, I definitely agree,.
