At the D23 Expo, Shinji Hashimoto, the Kingdom Hearts series director, took to the stage to talk Kingdom Hearts III. He spoke some on gameplay and introduced a new world in Big Hero 6.
All the keyblades will have their own transformations and will be unique from one another. We've seen some of those in trailers already, and they seem quite varied.
The attraction abilities featured throughout the trailers will all happen in real time when certain conditions are met to be able to use them. While that's not much detail, we at least know that the attraction "summons" will not be scripted events only held for certain events of the game. It does seem it will be limited, however, seeing as certain conditions must be met. How big a part of the gameplay they will be is still a question unanswered.
Big Hero 6 will be coming to Kingdom Hearts III. They spoke on how players will be able to use the darkness left behind from the portal in the movie and use it to manipulate the world. The story will take place after the events of the film. The team from Big Hero 6 and Square Enix are working closely together to make an interesting world.
Quick Take
There will be some disappointed fans today. At least, many of us expected to hear something about the release date for Kingdom Hearts III. However, a new world is always interesting and they seem to be taking it in the right direction—we're not just seeing the same thing from the movie again. Let's hope there may be more still.
We still have the Tokyo Game Show in November, where we can all expect big announcements. Since there was no release date here, one would assume that we will get on there. What the other details may be is anyone's guess.
